Accura diagnostic procedure may be performed by various healthcare professionals such as a physician, physiotherapist, dentist, podiatrist, optometrist, nurse practitioner, healthcare scientist or physician assistant.
General components which are present in a diagnostic procedure in most of the various available methods include:
Complementing the already given information with further data gathering, which may include questions of the medical history(potentially from other people close to the patient as well), physical examination and various diagnostic tests.
A diagnostic test is any kind of medical test performed to aid in the diagnosis or detection of disease. Diagnostic tests can also be used to provide prognostic information on people with established disease.
Processing of the answers, findings or other results. Consultations with other providers and specialists in the field may be sought.
Our highly qualified doctors equipped with state-of-the-art equipment provide patients with the best sonography testing experience. Sonography testing service is available.
What is a Sonography?
Also known as ultrasound or sonogram, sonography is a diagnostic medical test which utilises high-frequency sound waves (ultrasound waves) that bounce off of human body structures and generate an image.
The test uses a device known as a transducer that sends ultrasound waves, waiting for the echo to be received. A computer then translates the ultrasound waves and creates an image.
A trained technician is able to measure & detect body structures present in the generated image. The doctor then reads the images to help diagnose medical conditions.
Sonography Procedure
The standard procedure of sonography involves:
- Gel is applied to the body part that requires imaging
- The transducer is moved around the skin
- Ultrasound waves from the transducer bounce off of the body structures to generate images
Purpose of Sonography
Sonography assists in diagnosing specific medical conditions by helping assess the size, shape & density of tissues present inside a human body. It can also help recognise blood or fluid flow.
Particularly speaking, abdominal ultrasound is regularly used to diagnose gallbladder disease or gallstones, kidney stones or kidney disease, uterine growths or fibroid, liver disease, appendicitis, ovarian cysts, ectopic pregnancies, etc.
However, extremely hard & dense tissues or empty spaces, like organs filled with gas, aren’t able to conduct ultrasound waves & hence cannot be viewed on a sonogram.
Risks & Contraindications
Sonography is entirely safe as it’s a noninvasive imaging test with zero risks and complications. The ultrasound waves used during sonography are known to be completely harmless, and the test is generally conducted externally on the surface of the skin.
Even though the energy of the ultrasound waves may cause irritation or disruption in tissues with extended exposure, this happens only in rare cases as the computer adjusts the power of the ultrasound and an expert technician utilises techniques to reduce exposure times & angles.
